the birth control pill called Mircette how does it work? i was just recently put on this birth control on tuesday.the doctor explained some of the major points to me but im still a lil confused.ok after you take the pills in the pack do you have to wait a week to start the next pack or do you take all the pills in the pack(like 20 something pills) the start the next set? and how is your period suppose to work on this pill??

sokokl replied: "When on the Mircette you will take the entire pack of pills. That last week of pills is 3 placebo pills and 4 pills with hormone in it but a lesser amount than the first 3 weeks of pills. Your period will start anywhere during those 3 placebo pills, and the other pills are to slowly give a bit of hormone back until you start the next pack. I would recommend getting back in touch with your doctor to ask for further clarification on the instructions on how to take the Mircette."

Birth Control pill mircette and acne? OK I started taking mircette the bc pill for my acne about a week ago. so far i havent had anything change with my acne (its not worse but its not better just the same as usual) ... is it supposed to take so long to start clearing up my acne or does this mean this brand isnt going to work very well? Just curious!

Harriet replied: "It usually takes 1-6 months for people to see improvements in their acne from the pill. Hopefully it should start to be better for you after one cycle. I don't know how well Mircette works for acne though so I can't comment on that. However if you're not happy with it after a few months you can ask to be changed. Harriet"

New (first timer) birth control pills and im having a weird/nasty side affect, is it normal...? I started using mircette (birth control pill) and ive never been on "the pill" before. Week 2 ended saturday and yesterday i started my period when i wasnt supposed to start it until week four. But its not really my period. I have cramps and my back hurts like my period normaly does but im not bleeding right. Its really thick and dark and nasty looking. Its also not enough to even use a tampon. Is this what she warned me about called "spotting"? Should I keep going with my pill even though i dont take the blank ones until week four to get my real period? Will this stop or will i have to deal with this forever?!

stacey52891 replied: "well to help the nausea drink a whole glass of milk when you take your pill. and take it at night so you sleep through the side effects. break through bleeding is normal for the first three months. and the cramping is normal too. keep in mind all birth controls and people are different. you should talk to your doctor if your concerns continue. and you should read the pamphlet that came with your medicine since this is your first birth control."

FlightlessBird replied: "Don't stress! this is completely normal. Yes thats the spotting, or breakthrough bleeding. all of your symptoms are normal for first starting the pill. I started BC in january and went through the same things"

Ann F replied: "I would guess it is normal because your body must adjust to the extra hormones. If not too bad, give it a few months and then call the dr. He/she might be able to give you another kind over the phone. I had to have mine changed a few times because of extra bleeding. He/she has many to choose from. Promise not forever. Good luck."

guttahgyrl replied: "With some birth control it takes about 1-3 months for your body to get used to it...Anything after that your body is probably rejecting the birth control pill and you should probably have your physician to switch pills or something...I was on birth control for about a year...It takes a little minute for your cycle to sync, so I don't think you should worry about coming on in week 2 when you should come on in week 4 because it depends on the day you started the birth control...And it does sound like spotting and you should continue the pills and wait and see if you come on everytie during the 2 week and that might just be the time you come on..."

Factor V and birth control pills? I was just wondering if anyone diagnosed with Factor V is taking birth control pills. I've been taking birth control pills for years and just recently went off, got pregnant, then miscarried. After all this, I found out I have "low activity of Factor V" along with some mutation of MHTFR (can't absorb folate), so the doctor is doing more testing. Well after I found out this news I started to research and saw that the birth control pill (Mircette/Kariva) I've been taking for years is one of those that is highly discouraged in people with Factor V. Is this true? Has anybody had this happen? Also, I never would have thought I had anything wrong with my blood clotting, since I've never shown any symptoms of any of the kind of thrombolism (thank God). If you have this, how did you find out? How does treatment change if you don't have symptoms?

jenner73 replied: "I don't have the Factor V mutation, but I do have the MTHFR mutation. I was told to take additional folic acid and baby aspirin for this."

Birth control pills?????????!!!!!!!!? Ok so i am on the Birth control pills Mircette, I am still a virgin. but I aws supposed to start my period but i havnt.. I dont know what to do or why.. I am scared. The Pills only have two active pills, and I already took those and a white one last night. I took both the active pills when i was supposed to and I continued with the white even though i havnt started, I have NEVER been in a sexual situation.

Kiwi replied: "I sometimes don't start until i've taken the 3rd inactive pill, i wouldn't worry about it..."

Ginger A replied: "if your on the pill you don't get your period"

Vintage Girl replied: "Well if your a virgin you have nothing to be scared of. Are you at the beginning of the placebo pills or the end? I usually don't have my period till the very end of the placebo pills. Wait it out and if it doesn't come then go see a doctor."

Penny replied: "I sometimes don't get my period until even two days before I start taking active pills again. But if you get really worried, ask you gyno or whoever prescribed it. You can also probably ask the pharmacist."

wendyjo98 replied: "To the others that question why she is taking birth control pills if she is still a virgin.....haven't you had that moment that wasn't planned? She will be safe then. (well somebody DID put that comment in....looks like they may have had a change of heart and took it back out) Otherwise, many people need to go on the pill to regulate overly heavy periods and cramping. That being said, after taking my last active pill, my period comes 3-4 days later. I have had months where I haven't got my period at all. If you haven't been in any sexual situation, do not be scared at all. Keep in mind, that if you have been in a sexual situation where even though no penetration happened, you CAN still get pregnant if you messed up on your pills. Sperm CAN find a way up there if it was nearby...know what I mean?"

D3 replied: "It's always scary when your body doesn't do what you expect it to do. Don't worry, it's fairly normal to skip a period or have a light one when your on the pill. Obviously if you aren't having sexual intercourse the only other way to get pregnant is if you were having some form of foreplay and semen was somehow introduced into your vagina because the guy ejaculated near the opening, or something to that effect. If you aren't sexually active you can't be pregnant! Continue using the pill the way the doctor recommended and if you miss another period have them change you to a different dosage of hormones as the one you're on is probably not right for you. Don't worry, this is really common."

Boom Boom Pow replied: "Yes, you do get you period so don't listen to that. You can get fewer periods with a certain pill called Yaz but you still get them. Have you just recently started taking the pill? For the first few months it can make your cycle irregular so it's unpredictable as to when it will come but you're going to be okay. I went through the same thing when I first started."

Sarah replied: "Like one of the previous responses, it is not unusual to start your period after the second or third pill: this is because it takes approximately 2 to 3 days for the hormones to get out of your body. Also, if you have just started taking the pill, it will take up to three months for your body to adjust. Your period will not necessarily be regular during these 3 (or so) months. This is why most doctors do follow-ups with new BC patients after three months. The worst thing you can do is stress out, because stress can also delay your period."

Can birth control pills cause you to miss your period? I started birth control pills two months ago now, Mircette. I didnt wait a full month before having unprotected sex because I wasnt informed that I could get pregnant for that first month. I ended up getting a lot of pregnancy signs out of no where and I then missed my period for two months. Can the pill cause this to happen along with pregnancy symptoms, Im also a person who rarely has bad side affects to medications. Please help.

taylorbtuttle replied: "If you took them, stopped taking them, had unprotected sex: then you are probably pregnant."

Due 07/09/2009 replied: "I would take a pregnancy test. Most birth controls would regulate a period rather than making it disappear. Read your packet of instructions to be sure. If it says anything about missing periods, and that you could be pregnant than you should stop taking the pill to be safe."

Pr3go replied: "It does cause your period to change when it comes at first, but missing it for 2 months does not sound normal to me. I took pills for a long time and never had that problem on the pill. When I would first start taking them it would change my period schedule by two weeks or so but I NEVER missed one. Be safe and take a pregnancy test..."

? replied: "I would suggest that you should make an appointment with your gynecologist/doctor asap! Either you are pregnant, or your body is not doing so well with the birth control. They are both equally as important and significant. I hope you get back to normal soon! Even if periods do suck haha..."

1st period after new baby or just spotting after taking first week of birth control pills?? Help!! I have just started to take my birth control pills again...I am taking Mircette and I started last Sunday. I have been bleeding very lightly since late Monday. Is this just spotting or is this my first period after my baby? Do I need to stop taking the pills? I have an 11 week old baby and we born by c-section. After his birth, I bled for about three weeks, but it was very light. Help!! Thanks!!

Bre replied: "it is most likely your period no need to be woriied"

birth control pills. Please help me? I suffer from irregular periods so today I went to the doctor. She decided to put me on some birth control pills called "Mircette". The thing is that the doctor could barely speak English so she really confused me, when I tried to ask again she got really frustrated and was just not patient with me. She told me to start taking them today but I'm on my period, is that okay? Also, when my period does come around again, do I still take them? I'm really sorry but I've never been on the pill before so I'm really lost. I need all the help I can get. Thank you so much.

Anne replied: "You can start them at any time. Its easier on your body if you start them during or right after your period. Most doctors recommend the first Sunday after your period starts just so you can keep track of the pills easier. You take them every day, until the doctor tells you to stop. 1 month of pills is not going to fix your irregularity. You take them every day/every month and the pill is what helps you have your period on time. You would only get off it if you're having bad side effects or if you wanted to get pregnant. A lot of birth control pills have websites with lots of information that explains how to take the pill and how it works. Good luck!"

ChickRN 4 Choice replied: "Micette is great, I loved it when I was on it many years ago. It's best if you don't start it until the sunday after your next period (or sunday if that's the day you start). Starting it today will probably cause irregular bleeding and a longer heavier period when it does come. Read the insert on side effects so you know what to expect while your body is adjusting to the new hormone. Side effects do go away in time, the best thing to do is stick with it and tough it out, it gets better. You will have your normal period a few days after starting your inactive pills. You still may be on your period when it's time to start a new pack, that's ok. Just follow the days of the week on your pack taking one pill everyday, with in 2 hrs of the same time everyday. Condoms for the first month before your protected against pregnancy."

Oksana replied: "Yes,it is okay to start birth control if you are on your period, although usually you start them on the first day of your period. But since your periods are irregular, that can probably be an option. If you have 21 pills pack, you take them once everyday until finished. Then you give your body break of 7 days, during which you should expect your next period. On the 8th day(after these 7 days) you start a new pack. And the round goes over again. If you have 28 pills pack you take them without a break, but the last 7 are just sugary pills, not hormonal. That's how it works with most of the pills. Don't worry too much. Read the instructions and you will understand everything. Good luck!"

Can starting a new birth control cause a breast lump? I am 22 years old and just last Sunday i started a new Birth Control, called Mircette i believe. I was on a birth control about a year ago but had to stop because i got really bad headaches daily from it. A year later, i decided to try it again and my obgyn said this was a low dose pill. It's week later and I noticed a lump in my right breast that is painful. My question is, can starting a new birth control cause breast lumps to appear?

Seahorse replied: "You need to tell your doctor about the lump on your breast. One of the first thing a doctor tells us when going on Birth Control is if any lumps on the breast appear to tell them right away. Good luck and I hope its nothing."

If I'm going to get bad side effects (nasea, etc) from Birth Control pills, how soon will I feel them? I started low-dose mircette sunday nite. I think it probably takes a week or two? I am certainly hoping I don't get bad effects, of course. My mom didn't have any when she was on the pill, so I'm hopeful I'll be in the same boat.. What has been your experience--if you had bad side effects--how soon did you feel them? Input appreciated, thx.

little_gizmo2004 replied: "i never got side effects from the pill. but if you do just call your doctor"
